Event Log Modules

Event Log is built with a modular design with independent features Activated or Deactivated as desired. Scroll down for a full description of included modules.

Event Log is Best in Class Technology, representing Best Practices for Shift Handoff procedures.

Modular Architecture

The Event Log core is a sender and receiver of key data between multiple modules - each designed for a specific purpose and honed through collaboration with our best clients.

Modules are chosen based on need for each independent Event Log instance. And all modules are intelligent, seamlessly working with one another to present a cohesive, complete solution.

 Entry Templates

The most basic function of Event Log is to allow operator entry of key events in the logbook.  To facilitate the most efficient mechanism, Event Log allows for an unlimited number of entry types.  The standard Routine Entry is complimented with other custom entries according to the plants needs.  Examples include Safety, Environmental, Equipment Status and others.

For each of these entry types, Event Log also allows for the saving and categorizing of pre-defined Entry Templates.  These entry templates include all the normal fields for a particular entry, pre-filled with the saved information (operators can override any field as desired).  This allows the operator to quickly choose an entry template from the library, ensuring his entry is efficient and consistent across all shifts.  These templates may be categorized using up to three levels of organization.  For example, Area -> Unit -> Job.

Easy.  Complete.  Consistent.

 Shift Change

Event Log's Shift Change Module is comprehensive and streamlined.  It is designed to facilitate a brief conversation between the outgoing and relieving shifts, while reviewing highlights of the previous shift, current plant status, outstanding conditions and current operating plans.

Shift Change is normally conducted formally between shift supervisors.  The process involves reviewing key information and events, and checking them off to acknowledge their review.  If desired, Event Log supports Dual Review of log entries during shift change (once by the operator, final by the shift supervisor)

The shift change module automatically tracks the individual(s) completing the shift change, and notes their name(s) and time of review of each logbook event.

Once reviewed, entries are cleared from the Shift Change module and logged into history.  The exception is Flagged entries or Active conditions such as Out of Service Equipment.  These conditions reappear during subsequent shift changes until such time as the conditions warrant their removal.

 Orders & Rounds

The Orders & Rounds modules allow for comprehensive task management.

Shift Orders -> Sometimes referred to as Night Orders, Work Instructions or other terms, these are one-time instructions assigned to an area, job, individual, etc. with a defined due date.  Operators "Check Off" the orders adding comments if needed.  Event Log records the date, time and individual completing the orders.

Rounds -> These are similar to Orders, but with a defined, recurring schedule.  Virtually any schedule you can dream up is supported.  And Rounds may be assigned to multiple schedules if needed.

Orders and Rounds may also be created on exception.  Monitor the process using smart rules and create operator actions as appropriate.

 Duty Roster

The Duty Roster module is for tracking crew and job assignments, substitutions, basic shift plans and more.

Shift Leads pre-define their standard crew members and their job assignments.  To use the Duty Roster, the Shift Lead simply selects his crew, makes any needed changes to job assignments and that's it.

 Reports

Reporting is a very powerful module in the CapuWare Suite.  Based on SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), it includes extensions to retrieve data from OSISoft PI, AspenTech IP.21, Honeywell PHD, OPC-DA, OPC-HDA, ODBC, Web Services, SAP, Oracle, and many others.  It allows for comprehensive reports with concise information from disparate data sources.

Reports do not replicate data, but rather serve it up on demand.  Reports are available in real time or can be automatically subscribed to and received at set schedules.  By using Event Manager, reports may also be sent on exception.

Reports are easy to build and configure using standard Microsoft tools.

 Security

Event Log includes very flexible, role-based security.  High fidelity settings allow for stringent security settings.

Hide and show content based on role and/or user, enable or disable functionality and feature access.  Ensure that individual users are only able to access the information relevant to them.

User accounts are leveraged from Active Directory, allowing for easy central management of users and groups.

 Audit Trail

Event Log supports an unlimited number of users for real-time collaboration and information exchange, containing vital data regarding the facility operation.  As a result, it is imperative that a clear history of all user interactions is maintained.

The Audit Trail provides a mechanism for tracking all changes to log entries, including additions, deletions and modifications.  Even if entire entries are deleted from the main log, the Audit Trail keeps a history of all actions.

Unable to be modified by anyone, including IT Administrators, the Audit Log records all activity by user and date/time.

The Audit Trail can be exported by date range in to Excel to facilitate forensic investigations.

 Search

The Search module is both simple to use and comprehensive in its functionality.

Three levels of Search are offered:

  • Basic sorting and filtering
  • Keyword search
  • Full advanced query building

The results of Search can be exported to Excel for further analysis.

Search is also configurable by the Admin as to which areas of the log are included and how results are presented.

 Data Server

The Data Server is the interface to third party systems.  Designed for seamless, secure communications, the Data Server allows for real-time information exchange with other data sources.

Multiple data sources can be configured, each subject to applicable security measures.

 Event Manager

Event Log includes a "Lite" version of Event Manager to provide for automation within the logbooks.

For a full description, refer to the page on Event Manager here.

The "Lite" version is limited to the Create Entry and Toggle Round Actions.

 Bulletins

Bulletins are a quick and easy way to communicate general announcements with relevant staff.

They may be issued on a plant-wide basis or to individual logs, areas, jobs, etc.

Bulletins are given an expiration date after which they are automatically removed.  Full rich text formatting and attachments are supported.

 Operating Plan

The Operating Plan module is provided as a means to communicate product and intermediates targets and specifications as well as overall plant objectives.

The planner may include specifications with control limits, textual and tabular guidelines and any other relevant information.

Information from third party systems such as LIMS and the data historian may be included as well.

Finally, the planner may target individual guidelines to specific areas, units, jobs, user groups, etc., to ensure that only the relevant, actionable information is presented to each user group.

 Samples

The Samples module provides a mechanism for process engineers, shift supervisors and/or the plant planner to enter specifications for various control points.

The operators receive these specifications and make logbook entries for all Samples into the logbook.  Extensive reports are generated including trends showing the Sample values in relation to up to three levels of control points.

Operators also enter comments as needed for any Sample, typically indicating actions taken to ensure the value remains within specifications.

 Transfers

Transfers are provided to allow for the tracking of product movements between tanks and vessels.

It is an intelligent system that includes checks for space availability in destination vessels before the Transfer is initiated.

Comprehensive reports are prepared that detail all fluid movements over a given time period.  Before and After tank levels and volumes, plus volume transferred are reported.
