Alarm Philosophy Development

The Alarm Philosophy Document (APD) is at the heart of any alarm management program. Without the APD, the alarm management program is destined for difficulty. The APD should be the first step before embarking on any serious alarm management project.

The objectives of the APD are to:

  • ensure the alarm system provides relevant information to the operator at the right time, thus allowing him to take the proper corrective action.
  • act as a design guideline when implementing new systems or modifying existing ones. Alarm Philosophy
    • colors
    • priorities
    • sounds
    • etc.
  • define documentation and management of change procedures.
  • address alarm handling methods.
  • present metrics for alarm system performance.

CapuTech has written or assisted with the development of literally dozens of APDs and can help you avoid the mistakes that plague many APDs.

Typical development time for a proper APD ranges from 1-3 weeks depending on a variety of factors.
